Play Group Theatre Offers Classes/Auditions for Children and Teens

It is no surprise that the husband and wife team of Steven and Jill Abusch, who recently moved to Westchester from Manhattan, have founded the Play Group Theatre for Children and Young Adults. Steven and Jill met each other while performing in a teen production of GUYS AND DOLLS, went on to study acting at SUNY Binghampton, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, and the Stella Adler Conservatory.

The Play Group Theatre, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing performance opportunities and actor training for children and teenagers, is in its first season of classes in Westchester since relocating from NYC. The theater will now be considering new theater students aged 8 to 18 of all levels of experience for its winter-spring season of classes.

Auditions for a spring production of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT have been scheduled for January. Steven and Jill Abusch will direct the musical, one of their favorites, and are looking for a large cast of young people. They are also seeking to interview candidates for Musical Director for the show.

The theater also hopes to offer its "Winter Stock" program during this year’s February school break. This is a week-long workshop, culminating in a performance, which focuses on important issues in our community and what children and young adults can do about them. This year the focus will be on the environment, and how young people can help improve the current situation.

The Abusches reside in White Plains, but are making plans to offer their classes in more than one area of Westchester county. Call (914)-946-0649 for information about any of their programs.
