The MainStage program offers PGT students a conservatory quality performing arts experience within the same non-competitive environment that defines every PGT experience. Each season, students audition for a diverse range of plays and musicals, which are fully designed and produced on the PGT MainStage.
Once cast, PGT actors are immersed into a creative process that is unique. In each rehearsal, a group of exceptional young artists work with a fierce discipline, yet a joy in and a love of the craft. We see each of our students as individual and distinctive beings, yet we strive for a total and complete collaboration among our actors. We complete our shows with beautiful set, lighting and costume designs, but never without making sure that we first have a solid foundation of great work from our young actors – our shows are always as good as they look!
As a cast, PGT actors work together, not only in rehearsal but also in specially designed classes and workshops, which are integrated weekly into the rehearsal process. These classes expose our students to a variety of teaching artists and disciplines. Class curriculum varies from season to season. Often the curriculum is guided by the specifics of the season’s show, (i.e. a Text Analysis class for the cast of The Tempest, a Mask workshop for the cast of Pippin, etc.) and the skills taught naturally feed back into the rehearsal process.
The MainStage program offers PGT students a comprehensive actor training experience, providing an opportunity to work with a dynamic and nurturing professional staff, in a state of the art facility, among peers who are as committed to a sound creative process as they are to a magnificent finished product.
Shows rehearse, on average, two evenings per week, with occasional extra Sundays. Rehearsal days are set during the casting process (i.e. Tues/Thurs, Mon/Wed, etc.) and are announced along with casting. More specific schedules are set throughout the process so that actors are only called to rehearse when they are needed, making the demands on their time reasonable. Actors are called every day during Tech Week.Actors who wish to participate in the PGT Mainstage program audition at the beginning of each season. (Fall auditions are held in September and Spring auditions are held in January.) See the auditions page for more information.
