The Play Group Theatre for Children and Young Adults is Westchester's not-for-profit theatre company dedicated entirely to providing actor training and diverse performance opportunities for children and teenagers.
Founded by Steven and Jill Abusch as an artistic haven for children and teens, PGT has produced
years of versatile productions, from Shakespeare to big name musicals, from straight drama to original plays to improvisational comedy. PGT shows continually challenge the audience's preconceptions of children's theatre... the work of the young actors, the quality of the productions and the chosen material are all worthy of the professional stage.
At the core of PGT is teaching kids to follow their own creative impulses. Students learn through studio classes (which include acting, dance, musical theatre, improv, masks, storytelling and more), the
Actor Training Program (which includes classes and participation in a performance project), the
Outreach Program (which brings playwriting, improv, theatre games, on-camera technique and more into the classroom in several area schools) and PGT Summer Theatre (a full-day, three or six week summer theatre intensive).
Since PGT's first class offered in 1994, we have grown to include a variety of teachers and disciplines for every age, within each season. And since PGT's first production in 1995, we have grown to include a variety of directors with up to four shows in one season.
PGT Summer Theatre is a six-week summer intensive, which includes classes, rehearsals, performances and lots of creative, zany activities! Summer Theatre is the perfect option for young actors who are ready to immerse themselves completely in the performing arts.
The Play Group Theatre is pleased to announce we are now located in our new theaters at One North Broadway in White Plains, NY. Find out more about our new facility and see a few video tours on our
New Home page.
