For the audition, young actors are expected to present a brief monologue and a song (each being 1-2 minutes in length). Students are expected to be fully prepared for their audition; audition material should be well rehearsed and committed to memory. Check our audition material page for possible monologues and ideas on where to find monologue collection books. You can also find a helpful list of audition "Dos and Don'ts on our audition tips page. If you have questions about preparing your audition, please email Jill at jill@playgroup.org.
Upcoming auditions for ATP are:
September 14, 15, 16 and 17 between 6-9pm
Please request your prefered audition time and date on the registration form, downloadable from the
How to Register page. A 10-minute time slot will be reserved for new students and a 5-minute time slot will be reserved for returning students. An appointment confirmation will be sent to you. Auditions are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis. (Special preference will not be given to returning actors). A completed registration form and accompanying payment is required to schedule an audition.
Actors should bring to their audition a current photo of themselves and sheet music for their song (in the right key), so the musical director can accompany them on the piano.
Callbacks
A second round of auditions will occur for students accepted into the program (the artistic director will contact the parents of those students not being called back) on:
September 21, 22, and 23
A callback list will be posted on our web site on September 18 indicating which students are called back on which evening(s). If you do not see your name on the list, please call the PGT Office at 914-946-4433. To best prepare for a callback, please come with an open mind, dressed for movement and ready to dance, sing and read from the script.
Casting
Upon completion of the auditions and callbacks, the artistic staff will cast all four shows for the season. Actors will be cast in the project that best suits them individually the show which challenges them, shows off the skills they already possess, meets their schedule needs, etc. Students will be notified on September 25 of the show in which they are cast, their role in the show and the first rehearsal date.
Recent ATP shows have included The Wiz, Cats, Romeo & Juliet, Honk!, Urinetown, and Captain Louie.
