How to Register

Prerequisite core classes: 3 acting classes, 1 dance class, 1 improv class and 1 musical theatre class.

Students in PGT's Actor Training Program who have completed the prerequisite core class requirements will be placed in one of the Conservatory Electives as part of their training this season. ATP students indicate elective preferences while completing the paperwork at their audition.

Advanced students registering for a class this season who are not enrolled in ATP may also be eligible for the Conservatory Electives this season. Interested students should contact the PGT office at the end of September for the Fall or end of January for Spring elective opportunities.

Conservatory Electives have included the following:

Audition Technique

Learn how to audition in a professional enviornment. Whether you're auditioning for PGT or for Broadway this class will take you step by step from piece selection to how to make a great first impression. This class is a must for every actor wishing to pursue his/her craft.

Pilates for Actors

A movement class for actors based on the principles developed in the Pilate's Method. Using a variety of exercises created to increase core muscles strength and increase breath control, we will spend an hour challenging our bodies and our creativity! This class is a perfect way to see how your workout can directly influence your performance on stage.

Accapella

In this class you will learn the basics of accapella singing. This will include singing four-part harmony and learning a variety of accapella songs from classic to funky. You will also take part in composing an original song with a group, and have some fun with musical improvisation.

Character Development

This class will walk you through the process of taking a character off the page and onto the stage. Walks, gestures, voices, images, personal props, mannerisms and more will be covered. We will explore creating specific and interesting characters using text analysis, various styles of music, observing the movement of animals and carefully watching other characters in our own lives. Through games and exercises we will develop skills to create an endless amount of characters.

Advanced Acting

A challenging class using college-level acting exercises to strengthen the technique of the advanced actor. We will focus on accessing deep emotional connection through study of breath control and the body alignment. Students will have an opportunity to experiment with natural impulses resulting from heightened emotional work.

Back to the Basics Acting for Advanced Actors

At a certain point in your process, after studying the many complexities of the performing arts, it is important to revisit the simple techniques you learned when you were just beginning. With the experience of an advanced actor, these basics concepts will affect your work in a whole new way. Go back to the basics in this class to both ground and elevate your work.
